Hey! I am Gates Andrews.
I am an artist and designer originally from East Aurora, New York, and an alumnus from RIT’s Industrial Design Program (BFA 2024). At the intersection of art, craft, and design, I create fun yet resilient objects that are as useful as they are iconic.
Having grown up in an epicenter of the American Arts and Crafts movement, I considered nature and craft in my design practice from a young age; I prioritize sustainability through materials and creating things that are made to improve with time.
Calm and tense moments in my work create a striking yet elegant visual signature. Soft tones of natural materials echo an ancient and contemporary need for well-made things. Each project is carefully executed with thoughtful consideration in order to create a positive relationship between the user, the environment, and the object.
