The impetus of "Lingua" was combining the idea of a "battery ribbon" with pencil and pen organization. The utility of a battery ribbon allows batteries to be removed quickly, but in this case, we need the pencils to not fly everywhere when the ribbon is pulled.
Snaps were used instead of a zipper in order to add more personality to the case- they appear as the eyes of this tongued creature. In addition, not many zippers are made of natural materials.
A paper prototype was made referencing the length of most pens and pencils, and then a rough leather version was made to test how each piece was stitched together.
