How can we make a folding chair that emphasizes a contemporary narrative, while using sustainable materials?
Methods of Sustainability:
Attachment and Trust: Making an object beloved is hard, but encourages use and care over a long period of time.
Maintenance and Repair: If something can’t be fixed, a new one must be acquired. One fixed object is another kept out of the landfill.
Durability:An object made to endure and be consistently reliable and functional will simply last longer.
I created a full size mockup of an existing folding chair archetype in order to fully understand its mechanism. I added a strap of webbing to act as an arm rest. Then, I moved into CAD after taking measurements of the mockup.
